Spring Renewal: Seasonal Self-Care Rituals for Radiant Skin

Spring and your skin… 🌷 With the spring equinox tomorrow, this is the best season to focus on your skin health!

As a naturopathic doctor who helps women clear their acne naturally, I see spring as an invitation to let go of habits that stressing your skin, gently open up your detoxification pathways, and renew your skin health with season-aligned skincare rituals.

As the days start to get longer and warmer, do you get a little “spring fever?”

Excited to get outside and soak up that sunshine?

Maybe you suddenly feel the urge to deep clean your entire house? Like clearing out old clothes, dusting neglected shelves, and finally tackling that cluttered garage?

That’s because spring isn’t just about fresh air and blooming flowers—it’s a season of renewal. Just as we instinctively clean out our homes, our bodies naturally seek to release stagnation from winter, making space for fresh energy, vitality, and, yes, glowing skin!

Spring is the season of awakening. Your metabolism speeds up, your detox pathways kick into gear, and your body craves lighter foods, more movement, and time outdoors.

By aligning with these natural rhythms, you can support your body’s innate ability to detoxify, nourish your skin from within, and feel more vibrant than ever.

Why Your Skin Loves a Spring Reset

Your body already knows how to detoxify—your liver, kidneys, lymphatic system, and colon are always working 24/7 to clear out waste.

But after a long winter of slower digestion, heavier foods, and less movement, these detox pathways can become sluggish. This is one reason why spring allergies, breakouts, and digestive issues often flare up this time of year.

By giving your body the right support, you can help it transition smoothly into this new season — keeping breakouts at bay, boosting energy, and restoring balance to your body.

My “Spring Cleanse” for Clear, Radiant Skin

This isn’t a harsh detox or a restrictive diet. It’s a gentle, supportive way to help your body do what it naturally wants to do—release toxins, refresh your skin, and revitalize your energy.

This cleanse is intended to be done for 7-14 days for best results, but if you feel called to continue it longer, feel free!

As always, please speak to your healthcare practitioner before starting any new herbs or supplements or changing your healthcare regimen, especially if you’re on any medications. This information is for educational purposes only and is not medical advice.

1. Spring Nutrition: Freshen Up Your Plate

Spring is the season of renewal, and your body craves fresh, light foods that support detoxification.

  • Eat bitter spring greens at every meal to support liver health and digestion (think arugula, dandelion leaves, watercress, pea shoots, and chickweed).
  • Choose lighter foods like artichokes, chickpeas, and fresh vegetables over heavier starches (like rice and potatoes).
  • If you eat meat, opt for lighter proteins like fish and poultry.
  • Ditch sugar and processed foods to reduce inflammation and support clearer skin.
  • Stay hydrated with filtered water infused with fresh herbs, berries, or citrus to support lymphatic drainage and kidney function.

2. Spring Self-Care: Align with the Season

Spring is the season of the Air element, which governs the mind, nervous system, and digestion. If unbalanced, it can lead to nervous tension, bloating, and scattered energy. Here’s how to stay grounded and aligned:

☀️ Get 15 minutes of morning sun first thing upon waking to reset your circadian rhythm.
🚶 Move your body daily—ideally outside in fresh air and sunshine.
🌍 Ground yourself by placing your bare feet on the earth for at least 15 minutes a day.
📝 Journal on new beginnings—what do you want to create or release this season?

Spring is a time for new growth, not just in nature but within yourself. Use this energy to plant seeds—whether that’s new habits, new projects, or a deeper commitment to your well-being.

3. Herbs for Detox Support

These herbal formulas support healthy elimination via your detoxification organs.

🌿 Bitter herbs like dandelion root, burdock root, and yellow dock root stimulate digestion and liver function. Take a few drops of a bitter herbal tincture before each meal. You can find my favorite bitters here on my Fullscript medicinary, where you can save 10% on professional-grade supplements.

☕️ Drink an herbal tea containing liver-supportive herbs twice daily, like those found in my Clear Skin Tea.

Embrace the Spring Season!

Spring is a time of renewal, transformation, and possibility. By aligning with the season’s natural rhythms—eating seasonal foods, moving your body, nourishing your skin, and clearing out stagnation—you’ll not only support radiant skin but also feel more energized, creative, and inspired.

This season is an invitation. A fresh start. A chance to step into a version of yourself that feels lighter, freer, and more aligned with your dreams.

So take a deep breath, step outside, and let the fresh energy of spring work its magic on you.
